Yesterday we had a lovely visit to Tala, a private game reserve that is about 35 miles from Tony and Moira’s home.

It has been a special place for us since Nicki and I first visited there in January 2001, before she came back to the States and a few months before we were married.

At checkout, Mandy (the owner’s daughter) asked us where we were from.  We told her we were in Arizona.  She said, “My sister Kelly moved to Scottsdale two weeks ago, you must call her.”

We took her number and called her.  At that time, Nicki was feeling really homesick for SA and I suggested she contact Kel and we’ve been fast friends ever since.

Not only did Kelly and her family become our friends, but her aunt and uncle — Malcolm and Peggy — were incredibly welcoming too.  That is one thing about the South African ex-pat community, they really stick together in the States and it’s a wonderful thing.

Malcolm and Peggy also were incredibly gracious to us and hosted our wedding day reception at their lovely Scottsdale home.  We are so grateful for their friendship.

Yesterday we saw Stuart, Tina, his son Greg and her niece Fiona and had a terrific lunch on the veranda at the restaurant and then off for the game drive.

Here are a few of my favorite images from the day.
