For the second day of the 5 Day B & W Challenge, I wanted to share a b & w photograph of Fr. Burke (right) from an essay I did in the early 80s in Chicago. Father Burke, who at the time was in his 90s, was a retired Catholic priest who lived in a nursing home in Oak Park, IL.
Even though he was retired, he continued to say Mass daily and administer to the needs of the residents of the nursing home. He was a wonderful and gentle soul and I was grateful he allowed me to photograph his life.
I made several trips to see him for this essay and every time I visited there was always something I never expected and he always gave me a great photograph (not by his trying, but just by his allowing me to be present).
